Day 1: Arrival to Quito

Upon arrival to Quito we will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your hotel, which is located in the new area of Quito.

Day 2: Free day in Quito

Today you can discover Quito! You can go to the Old Town of Quito to see the beautiful colonial churches, buildings, plazas and “La Ronda” which is one of the oldest and most historical streets in Quito. Another option is going to Mitad del Mundo, to the equator, where you can learn interesting facts and experiments which are only applicable at the Equator. Overnight in Quito.

Day 3: Quito - Cuyabeno Reserve

Transfer from your hotel to the airport. Flight to Lago Agrio. Upon arrival in Lago Agrio, you will go by private bus (2 hours), to the entrance of the Cuyabeno Reserve, where we will have a box lunch. Here our naturalist guide will give information about the reserve, important recommendations and other tips to begin the two hour canoe ride on the Cuyabeno River to Jamu Lodge. During the canoe ride you will get a first glimpse of the amazing plants and wildlife found in the jungle. You may also be able to see a variety of monkeys and other jungle animals, depending on the time and weather conditions. We will arrive at Jamu Lodge, where you can relax. After a siesta we will leave the lodge for a swim in the lagoon and to watch a beautiful sunset. You will then return to the lodge for dinner and you can finish your first day in the jungle relaxing in a hammock.

Day 4: Cuyabeno Reserve

After breakfast we will take a trek in the primary forest for 3 to 4 hours where your guide will explain how this complex tropical ecosystem works. You will learn about medicinal plants and might be able to see some exotic birds or monkeys. We will then return to the lodge for lunch and a siesta. In the afternoon, we will have a swim in the lagoon and watch the sunset. With a little luck you can observe the pink river dolphins or an anaconda sunbathing in a tree. You will return to the lodge for dinner, and then take a night canoe ride to look for caimans.

Day 5: Cuyabeno Reserve

After breakfast, we head to the Siona Community of Puerto Bolivar, the largest ethnic group in the reserve. During this tour you will learn their customs, traditions and way of life. You will be part of the preparation of casabe, a local dish made of yucca. During the 2 hour canoe ride to the community you can admire the existing fauna along the Rio Cuyabeno such as: birds, monkeys, snakes, pink dolphins and tortoises. A visit to the shaman, the healer of the community, is also included. This is a full day excursion with lunch in the community. After returning to the lodge, we will go for a short nocturnal hike through the primary forest in search of insects, spiders, geckos or scorpions, and listen to the night sounds of the jungle. Dinner.

Day 6: Cuyabeno Reserve – Quito

Early in the morning, before breakfast, a bird-watching excursion is optional. Back at the lodge we will have breakfast and then return to Lago Agrio to take your flight back to Quito. In Quito we will pick you up and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 7: Day Trip

Today you will go on a shared group day tour to either Cotopaxi National Park, Cayambe Volcano, the Quilotoa Crater Lake, Otavalo market or Mindo Cloud Forest. This depends on the availability and day of the week. Overnight in Quito.

Day 8: Day Trip

You will do another day tour, a different one than the day before off course. Overnight in Quito.

Day 9: Galapagos Island Hopping: San Cristobal

Transfer to the airport where you will take your flight to Galapagos! Pick up from the airport and transfer to the hotel. Get settled and get ready to enjoy a nice Ecuadorian lunch. Visit to Loberia Beach: a beautiful beach with great snorkeling! During the snorkeling you may find marine turtles, rays, sea lions and many species of colorful fish. There is also a nice hike to a cliff where you can see many marine iguanas and birds such as: blue footed boobies, swallow-tailed gulls and frigate birds. After that we go back to the hotel to get ready for dinner.

Day 10: Floreana - Isabela

Breakfast will be served at 6 AM in your hotel. Around 6:30 AM you will be picked up to go to the pier to depart around 7 AM to Floreana. The private boat ride lasts for about 2.5 hours. Upon arrival, you visit the highlands, where the first colonists of the islands settled. The guide will tell you about the history of the colonists. During the short hike you will also spot Galapagos giant tortoises. Lunch will be served in the small village. After lunch you go snorkeling on a beautiful beach nearby the pier. Afterwards you will travel by boat to Isabela Island (approx. 1.5 hours). Isabela is one of the youngest islands and still has moderate volcanic activity. It is a beautiful island with its town located near a bay and a long white sandy beach. Upon arrival you will be picked up by taxi or bus and we go to the flamingo lagoon to spot these beautiful animals at sunset. Transfer to the hotel to get ready for dinner.

Day 11: Isabela

On your third day you can choose between a Volcano trekking tour (land tour) and the Cabo Rosa tour (snorkeling tour)!

Option 1 - Volcano Hike
Early in the morning you will be picked up by bus or taxi and driven towards the highlands: you will start a trekking (6 hours) to the Sierra Negra and Chico Volcano. The first stop on the hike is Sierra Negra Volcano which has the second largest active crater in the world: 10 km diameter. You will continue to walk towards Chico Volcano, which is a cone of Sierra Negra. You will walk through moon-like sceneries and have great views of nearby Fernandina Island and the north of Isabela Island. This gives you an idea of how the islands looked at their creation. After walking back you will travel by bus or taxi to a local farm, which is also a tortoise reserve, where lunch will be served. You will be back at the hotel around 3:30 PM to change to depart for a nice swim and snorkeling at Concha de Perla lagoon.

Option 2 - Cabo Rosa Tunnels (this option has an extra cost)
If you prefer snorkeling over hiking this is a great opportunity. You can take the excursion to Cabo Rosa tunnels which are located at about 1 hour boat ride south from the town. This is an amazing place where the volcanic activity created lava tunnels under and above sea level. You can spot the Galapagos penguins and you will have great snorkeling too! Lunch will be provided during the tour. Later on you meet the rest of the group to swim/snorkel all together at Concha de Perla lagoon.

Day 12: Isabela - Santa Cruz

In the morning you will visit the Tintoreras Islet near the town; you can spot small Galapagos penguins, sea lions, marine iguanas and blue footed boobies. Often you can even spot white tipped sharks in one of the channels. You will have a short hike and go snorkel nearby. Afterwards you will travel with our private boat to Santa Cruz (2 hours). Upon arrival you will be transferred to the hotel and change to get ready for lunch and the afternoon program. After lunch you will walk to Tortuga Bay beach to enjoy a last swim in the Galapagos waters and you will spot a huge iguana colony. The walk to Tortuga Bay is 3 km each way, passing through a giant endemic cactus forest.

Day 13: Baltra airport – Flight to Quito

In the morning you will reach Baltra airport with a stop to visit a lava tunnel. Sometimes you can spot the Galapagos owl. Flight back to Quito, where we will take you to your hotel.

Day 14: Transfer to the airport for your flight back home

Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the airport.
