This 6 day Ecuador Multisport tour is an excellent option if you want to visit different regions of Ecuador in an adventurous way doing a lot of different activities. During this tour you will visit the Andes with its volcanoes, crater lakes and hot springs and the upper Napo area in the Amazon rainforest. You will go hiking and biking in the Andean mountains, explore waterfalls and canyons, paddle down the rapids of the Jatunyacu River in the Amazon and you will bath and relax in the volcanic hot springs of Papallacta. Besides all these activities you will also spend time with an indigenous family in the Amazon!

This tour is available as a private tour and also as a shared tour with fixed departures. The private tour can start on every day of the year and the shared tour has departures every Sunday. During the tour you will be accompanied by an English speaking guide. ITINERARY

Day 1: Hiking in the Cotopaxi National Park

Pick up from your hotel in Quito from where we drive south through the Avenue of Volcanoes to the Cotopaxi National Park. Cotopaxi Volcano is the highest active volcano in the world (5897 m. – 19347 ft.) and second highest mountain in Ecuador. Once we enter the National Park we drive to the Limpiopungo Lake, located at 3800 m. at the foothills of Rumiñahui volcano. Here we can observe Andean birds like Andean gulls and speckled teals and we will hike around the lake and learn about the flora and fauna of this unique paramo area. When the weather is clear we will be able to enjoy beautiful views of Cotopaxi volcano. After our hike we continue our drive towards Baños, located at the foothills of the active Tungurahua Volcano and surrounded by beautiful green mountains. Overnight at Casa de Luis or similar.

Day 2: Biking in the Cloud Forest

Today we will go mountain biking from the Llanganates National Park down to the Pastaza river canyon. On the way we will bike through Andean farms, a beautiful canyon with many waterfalls and we will have spectacular views of Baños and the Tungurahua volcano. The route is mostly downhill; the first 45 minutes we bike uphill and then we just go down. You will be riding on cobblestone and dirt roads for the first two hours and one hour on asphalt. In the afternoon we will have some time to explore the town and we also go to the La Casa del Arbol, which is the famous “swing at the end of the world”. Overnight at Casa de Luis or similar.

Day 3: Canyoning in the Amazon

After breakfast we will visit the Road of Waterfalls. We stop at Manto de la Novia waterfall, where we go across the Pastaza river canyon in a cable car. Than we hike to the Pailon del Diablo waterfall, which is the most impressive waterfall in the area. From here we drive into the Amazon region of Ecuador. We will do a hike through the tropical rainforest and we will climb through several waterfall canyons. Our local native guide will teach about the incredible flora and fauna found in this habitat. We will stay overnight at a basic jungle lodge run by a Quichua indigenous family.

Day 4: Rafting on the Jatunyacu River

In the morning we will prepare our gear to go rafting on the Jatunyacu River, which originates from the Llanganates National Park and has level III rapids. The name “llanganates” comes from “beautiful mountain” in the local native language. The Incas hid their golden treasures 600 years ago somewhere in the Llanganates National Park. Many explorers have spent years looking for these treasures and some have even disappeared in this dense pristine jungle. After a safety briefing from our rafting guides, we will start our class III rafting expedition down the Jatunyacu River, known for its awesome rapids. Afterwards we will have a picnic, prepared by the guides, and we will drive back into the Andean mountains. On the way we will stop at the Guango Reserve to observe several species of hummingbirds at the feeders. We then continue to the Papallacta Hot Springs where we will spend the night. Here you can bath and relax in the hot springs; outside your room you will find several pools fed by natural springs heated by the nearby Antisana volcano with temperatures between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius. Overnight at Termas de Papallacta or similar.

Day 5: Otavalo Market

We start with a small hike, where you can appreciate the local flora and fauna. In this area you can find different species of birds, including hummingbirds and tanagers. Afterwards we drive towards Otavalo and we will stop at the Quitsato sundial which is located on the equator line. Here they will show you interesting facts about the equator. Then we will continue to the famous Otavalo Indian Market, which is known for its handicrafts, tapestries and textiles. Here you have time to wander around and buy some souvenirs. In the late afternoon we will arrive to the hacienda, where we will stay overnight. Overnight at Hacienda Pinsaqui or similar.

Day 6: Hiking around the Cuicocha Crater Lake

After breakfast we drive to the Cotacachi Cayapas Ecological Reserve, the main attraction here is the Cuicocha Crater Lake. Here we will start our 5 hour hike around the lake. During the hike we will be able to observe different species of orchids and other flowers and we will take a boat ride to the center of the crater to observe the activity of the volcano and we will see bubbles coming up from the center of the crater. In the afternoon we will drive back to Quito.
