ITINERARIES

Gordon Rocks

Gordon Rocks is located north east of Santa Cruz. Gordon Rocks is a cone shaped tuff formation and is a world famous dive site and one of the best dive sites in Galapagos. However, this site is only suitable for experienced divers as currents and surge are mostly very strong and can also cause the washing machine effect. These currents bring the plankton to the surface attracting large pelagic fish. But hammerhead sharks are the main attraction! You also can observe the oceanic sunfish (Mola Mola), Galapagos sharks, white tip reef sharks, marine turtles, mobula rays, sting rays, eagle rays, panamic green morays, Galapagos eels, barracudas and various reef fish.

* To be able to dive at Gordon Rocks you need to have a minimum of 25 dives.

Bartolomé has amazing scenery both on land and underwater which makes it one of the best dive sites. Its underwater world consists of interesting rock formations with overhangs, caves, and deep crevices. Currents are mild to strong depending on the time of year and visibility is generally good in this area. The marine life that can be seen in this area is the following; pelagic fish, sea horses, white tip reef sharks, reef fish including large schools of hunting yellow tailed surgeon fish, barracudas, turtles, mobula rays, sting rays, scorpion stone fish and various invertebrates.

Cousins Rock

Cousins Rock is a world famous dive site north east of Santiago, near Bartolomé. Cousins Rock is a triangular rock which rises 10 meter out of the water and consists of multilayered volcanic rock. This site has a unique and stunning topography of jagged rocky shelves in which animals, both big and small can be found resting and feeding. It is one of the few places where you can see endemic black coral in amongst the riot of colorful clams, algae, flora and fauna that cover the rocks like splashes of paint. During our surface interval, look out for the penguins that inhabit the surrounding area. During this dive you can see sea lions, Galapagos sharks, white tip reef shark, turtles, sea horses, barracudas, sting rays, eagle rays, manta rays and reef fish including large schools of floating bullseye pufferfish.

Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes is situated off the north western coast of Santa Cruz. This dive is suitable for beginning to intermediate divers. Visibility is usually pretty good and the site is almost always protected from currents and heavy seas. The back side of the eastern crescent is a sheer to steeply sloping wall adorned with black coral. Although the marine life is varied, there are rarely any pelagic fish because of the lack of current. Divers will see schools of grunts, yellowtail surgeonfish and yellowtail snapper. Rays, white tip reef sharks, marine turtles and moray eels are fairly common too. Sea lions join divers on their visit and bottom fishes, such as king angelfish, puffers, creole fish, damsels, butterfly fish, blennies and parrotfish are all common.

Plazas

Situated off the east coast of Santa Cruz, North and South Plazas were uplifted from the sea floor and are very old islands. Diving off the backside of North Plazas is a nice, easy and relaxing dive, with relatively little current or surge. The dive usually begins along the center of the north shore, where a boulder slope with a gradual incline falls to a sand bottom. White tip reef sharks, marble and diamond rays, and waving fields of Galapagos garden eels are found here. There are huge schools of yellowtail surgeonfish yellow tailed mullets and lots of parrotfish in the shallows. You are more likely to see pelagic fish, including hammerheads and Galapagos sharks, at the eastern end of the islet in the warm season (January - May).

Look out for the endemic red lipped batfish and unique Galapagos sea robin that has fins, wings and legs. Also here are white tip reef sharks, marine turtles, young sea lions playing, Galapagos sharks, sting rays, eagle rays, marbled rays, barracudas, reef fish and invertebrates like octopus in amongst the reef.

Daphne is located north of Baltra. Here we dive along a cliff wall with hidden treasures, a rocky and sandy bottom across an incline, like a pyramid wall. You can observe white and black tip reef sharks, Galapagos sharks, sea lions, and if you are particularly lucky you can see all of these predators hunting the large schools of black-striped salemas and sardines along with blue footed boobies diving for their share! We also find marine turtles, yellow fin tuna, sting rays, eagle rays, marbled rays, barracudas, jewel morays, large schools of king angelfish and much more.

Mosquera

Mosquera is a mall sand island and is situated north of Santa Cruz only a short distance away. A sandy bottom at 15-18 meters is scattered with curious garden eels and pelagic species as well as an underwater wall flowing downwards from the shallow into the deep. Keep an eye out for hammerhead sharks and the garden eels that pop their heads out of the ground and disappear down their burrow as you approach. Also found in the area are black tip and white tip reef sharks, sea lions, turtles, barracudas, sting rays, eagle rays, mobula rays and a variety of reef fish and invertebrates.

Kicker Rock

This site is the best spot in San Cristobal for spotting marine turtles, eagle rays, Galapagos sharks, and if lucky, hammerhead sharks. Kicker Rock is sheer-walled tuff cone that has been eroded in half and is home to a large colony of sea birds, such as boobies and frigate birds. The whole area and especially the west face of the rock, is exposed to moderate currents. The water at the bottom is cool and clear, and among the boulders you can expect to see a variety of wrasses, starfish, surgeonfish, and angelfish. Sightings of large rays and marine turtles are common as well. But the highlight is diving with Galapagos sharks, white tip reef sharks and hammerhead sharks!
